The operator of the ARAL petrol station in Aalen is particularly pleased about the reaction of the customers when they first enter the new shop. Many look around with big eyes and marvel first. “Customers just do not expect to find a bakery in a petrol station and also not with this look made of wood and steel”, said Nathan Catalano, Head of Purchasing Pool and Aral petrol station Aalen of Ludwig Dalacker & Sohn. Nathan Catalano heads one of the first two “Frischwerk” shops. Under this brand Lekkerland has introduced a new shop concept for gas stations. The second “Frischwerk” is located in an Esso station in Hamburg-Bergedorf.
“The image of gas stations must change so that they can compete with new competitors on the way, such as bakeries and discounters,” said Patrick Steppe, CEO Lekkerland AG & Co. KG. “Achieving this change in a profitable way – this is what our concept aims for.” At the petrol station trade fair UNITI Expo in June 2016, Lekkerland presented a first taste of its shop concept. The two test stores opened in winter 2016.
